map of Ottawa

scrabbling urban planning

the game reveals the players' personality...
would you a) try to use the best of the given letters to make good words,
or b) aim only for double/triple word/letter scores,
                                           or c) both...?

if a), you are a student
if b), you are a developer
if c), you are an architect

Revealing the Rhizome

Dense urban area leaves many spaces left undesired and seemingly unpopulated. Many of these zones are in fact full of activity, thus warranting a certain level of architectural intervention in order to render them once again desired.

MIGRATION ENERGY

MAPPING MIGRATION ENERGY:
We are all tied together in interlocking rhythms almost entirely outside awareness. When people interact they synchronize their motions and emotions. To find a pattern I overlaid travel paths, building densities, and most popular places to go to on a hot Saturday to socialize in Ottawa downtown core. I learned that the Market outdoor patios and public civic parks had the most energy.

SEE. SEEN. Chapter 1

sketchbooks re-bound

with time, all books are bound to be unbound
but, that being said,
some will be re-bound, and
it's in the confused re-binding of unbound books that
we discover new stories and a new plateau

Across The City

What will happen if people start to move randomly across the city?
This is a study of imposing new random pattern on downtown of Montreal, Discovering and mapping out new perspectives of the city.

A Fragmented Narrative

Mappae Mundi of my dream. Everything is connected to everything else.

Canada's immigrant population

Mapping Canada's population and relating it to immigrants over the years.  Note that all three territories have been combined.

Placing above map of Canada in the world. and starting to see where the immigrants are coming from.

Road Design

If we reordered the layers traditionally found on maps (built work on top, roads on ground, topography at bottom)... would we discover a new urban design strategy? Could entire communities have there own transit system hidden below?

Viewer or Viewed?

Our Urban landscape is cluttered with surveillance equipment. We have become so accustomed to it that most don't even notice they are being watched and recorded throughout their day. Would you?
